The Fishback Center for Early Childhood Education Kindergarten Laboratory offers an experiential, inquiry-based, negotiated curriculum approach inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
A Reggio Emilia-inspired program emphasizes a rich classroom environment and close observation of children’s interactions.
Teachers create general lesson plans but try to spontaneously follow the children’s interests with relevant classroom projects, listening carefully and documenting (making visible) the experiences and understandings of the children.
Children are viewed as capable, competent, and curious learners.
