Welcome!

The mission of the college of Family & Consumer Sciences is to enhance the quality of life for families, consumers, and communities through learning, discovery, and engagement.   Our vision is to be known for high quality, dynamic and innovative approaches to teaching, scholarship and outreach in its quest to develop human potential.   Since our beginnings in 1884, we have charted a long and proud history, graduating thousands of students in a diverse array of disciplines.

Through a comprehensive planning process, the FCS faculty has created a visionary future for our College.  Our strategic plan identifies goals for the College in four broad areas.  For the next five years, this plan will be our guide to building an even stronger, more dynamic college.  Please explore these exciting new directions. I think you will find our path to the future is ambitious and cutting-edge.

We are proud of our academic programs, faculty, student and facilities.  Explore eight exciting undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs in FCS.  Also, we highlight for you scholarship information, alumni activities and contacts, and our most recent development/fund raising needs.  Please explore our site and find out more about us!

Becoming involved is one of the most important steps to academic success.  We take this seriously and offer many opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom.  Developing you as a student leader is one of our primary goals.

After reading this, I hope you will visit us.  Please call and arrange a campus visit where you can meet our faculty and some of the 830 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students who choose to major in Family & Consumer Sciences.  We’ll show you our laboratories, classrooms, residence halls, and our beautiful campus.

Most importantly, I hope you will consider coming to SDSU and having FCS become where you “hang your hat.”  We’d love to have you.  Please give us a call at 605-688-6181 or e-mail me for further information.
